Rodrigo y Gabriela

Live In France

These guys are just incredible, me and my brother saw them live at Latitude Festival and man- they really got the crowd going which, personally I find amazing! At a time like ours today, in our techno-ified lifestyle, it is so good to see the younger generations loving this kind of music! My family has always been a bit of a fan for weirdly brilliant guitar music like this, and I was always looked at strangely by my friends who couldn't understand why we would listen to it- but now, they understand. It gives me the shivers to watch Gabriela play like that- they have such a passion for what they are playing, its awe inspiring!
On that note, my brother is here to visit for New Years (we are going to a hut, in the middle of some forest, with some family and friends.. Gonna be MENTAL!) so I best go keep him company, as he has started to dance around to R&G..
Peace out and 'guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr'..! -x

Off to work in a bit, going to go to my second favourite cafĂ© for a bit of read and good coffee. Hope you're all having a lovely day so far-
A comment about the music; I've always been a fan of Noah and the Whale, as probably every other person who also likes them, it was Five Years' Time which made me notice them and ever since they've been that band I listen to when I'm feeling in a 'sunshine' type mood. They have often been criticised because of their on-stage performances, lets just say they are not the most enthusiastic bunch of lads but once they begin to play the crowds just go wild. Their use of synthesisers and the sound of Fink's bruised voice adds to their overall character and often reminds me of maybe 'Talking Heads'(?) coming across very blasĂ©, almost mimicking David Byrne- it works very well.
On a different note, I also want one of these..
How cool?! I figured it would be easier and cheaper to learn how to drive one of these instead of a car.. especially out here. Love -x

How cool is this dude..!? Another amazing Spotify find before I went out to England and now I'm back out here again I needed this song to make me feel a bit more cheerful- its got that kind of rhythm you've just gotta bounce your leg up and down too! Plus, he looks like such a cool, laid back kinda guy- (such an Aussie!) that pit, personally, makes me feel all relaxed and chilled watching and listening to him..

I'm back..

So I flew back out here, to Germany, again today. I gotta say- its upsetting being sat back here, in this flat, and not feeling at all like I've been away.. It's an odd sensation!
On the plus side, I have many new clothes, creams, candles, books and even DVD's here now- this definitely makes me feel better!
On the plane ride over here the sun was just setting (got a later flight so I could have a few more hours in good ol' England..) and it was beautiful! Amazing colours that one could probably only see in a sunset.. Wish I had taken a photo!

Festive fun..

I can't believe its Christmas already; this week has flown by. I kinda thought the other day that I don't know if I want to go back- but then I think about a life of living in Loughborough and I instantly enjoy the thought of getting back out!

I bought my brother a jigsaw puzzle for Christmas this year, he'd previously said we spend far too much time in front of the tele on Xmas day, so to stop this so-called awful tradition I bought a puzzle to occupy us. And wow- it is hard! We've been at it all day and we've only done the edges!!
I went out the other night, for a reunion with my old school friends- it was such fun to see everyone again. Here's a few photos of our antics while having a bit of a pre session..

Love the play-suit here. Its my mates Sarah's- she is obsessed with vintage stuff and man, I gotta say. This is one of many beaut items I've discovered in her wardrobe..

After The Gold Rush

So I'm back at home and man- it feels so good! I knew I'd missed my parents and friends, but I didn't realise how much. I'm off to London today for a bit, to visit a really good friend of mine- we haven't seen each other in about five/six months, and I am so excited to see him again!
When I arrived on Sunday one of the first things I did was listen to my record player. If I could take it with me, to Germany, I wouldn't need anything else, ever. The music just sounds so much better- some would say its too scratchy or not 'High Definition' enough (if you can even get that for music players..) but I don't care. There is something Romantic about the sound- and we all know I'm an old Romantic.

Gotta dash- much love -x

Lover, you should've come over..

Having a smooth slide into my birthday- wine, candles, Jeff Buckley, a Sherlock Holmes book, two full up suitcases and a plane ticket for tomorrow morning. Could life be more perfect?
Goodnight and see you in England -x

NAME ME !

P.s. I am a bit of weirdo right, and I like to name things. My guitar is called Dylan- as Bob Dylan is one of my favourite musicians and Dylan Thomas is one of my favourite poets. Thus, Dylan was clearly a good name for a guitar. But now I have a dilemma, I need a name for my Iphone.
Does anyone have any ideas?!
PLEASE HELP ME... -x

I wanna ask you..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rspFcLcMZI - the best way to wake up on a dreary Saturday morning.

I am currently playing around on my amazing, beautiful, stunning, elegant and fabulous phone. Its been exactly twelve hours and I'm already beginning to think 'How the hell did I live my life without one of these!?!' ! My parents would be pleased to know that the very first App I downloaded was a free translator- and thank Heaven for that, as now I don't have to lug a dictionary around with me everywhere I go (I may have to admit that when I was thinking about getting an Iphone I wrote a pro/con list, and have a dictionary/translator App may have been at the top of my pro list..) !
Anyway there is another reason why I have ever so happy on this rather rainy day.. I AM GOING HOME IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS!! This time tomorrow I shall (hopefully) be at Frankfurt Airport, after getting my five o'clock in the morning taxi (Lord help me!) and will then be flying out to get to good ol' Birmingham for midday- I.could.not.be.more.excited.
I really should get on with my packing to be honest. Too much to do and I'm too excited to do any of it!!
I can't wait to see my friends again.. -x

Fabulous..

So I bought myself an iPhone 4 today. Just for a bit of fun, like. LOL- no, out of necessity, mixed with a dash of want and desire. But I am unable to properly quote on how 'amazing', 'fabulous', 'beautiful' and 'elegant' these little gadgets are as I am forbidden to play on it until it has charged for 24 hours. This I am rather unhappy about- but I guess 24 hours after waiting a few fair years isn't too hard.. Even though it looks all lonely lying there on my shelf, charging away..
Off to bed now- meant to go earlier but I kept finding things to do, and I haven't even started to pack yet! Man oh man, its gonna be a rush as ever. I'll most likely end up packing at four in the morning on Sunday (bearing in mind, my train leaves at half five..)
Been watching a bit of Sex and the City recently- amazingly enough, I have found a German version. But I am beginning to love the word 'Fabulous'. It's just so, well, fabulous.
Sleep well lovely folk -x

A few pictures from a few weekends ago. Super fun night! -x

You go today..

Four days.
Its really turning into a massive storm outside today, there's been weather warnings on the news for a few days and they call it an 'Orkan' - now I translated this, and Google translate told me 'hurricane' but according to my neurotic German teacher, it isn't a hurricane, its an 'Orkan'. Who knows what the difference is- but one thing I do know is that it is damn windy out there.
Off to town now to get my new phone- still no sure if I should go for an Iphone or not. I really really really want one- but Elodie told me today that it wouldn't suit me. Now for those who don't know me, I am rather old fashioned when it comes to techo stuff- disposable camera's, ratty old pink flip-up phones, good ol' Ipod. But seeing as I lost my little pink phone, I seriously need a new one, and why not go with the times for a change and pick up a swanky one?!
Oh I have no idea.. I'll let you know how I get on.
Peace -x

TIME

We went to go watch Justin Timberlake's new film tonight- 'In Time'. If you ever get a chance to go see it, it really makes you think. I mean, once you get past the protagonist being JT (although giving him credit, he's actually decent in this film..) but the whole plot and the meaning behind the plot; its fascinating! A small synopsis is basically- genetic alteration has allowed humanity to stop ageing at 25, but people are required to earn more time or will die within a year. The 'Living time' is displayed on people's lower arm, it has replaced money and can be transferred between each person. For example, a coffee costs 4 minutes, a bus fare costs 2 hours and a car 65 years. However, when the clock reaches zero, the person will instantly die. Will Salas (JT) lives in the ghetto with his 50 year-old mother, and lives for each day- not thinking about tomorrow. Of course at the end there is happiness for all, and the protagonists save the human race and its all very good. But really, it made me really think. We waste so much time just thinking about time- do we forget to live our lives too?
The clock's ticking.. -x

Everything goes to hell anyway..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntanv10we4M&feature=related - Tom Waits. Best ever male voice? It most certainly has the most character..!
Here's a few of my own pictures from my disposable camera from the weekend when my brother visited. I love the way the colours of the photos come out on these camera's!!
I had the best weekend, but I lost my phone- can't believe it! I think I have a problem. I seem to be losing everything these days!! So I am currently deliberating over whether it's worth me getting a contract phone out here, or whether I should carry on paying a stupid amount on 'pay-as-you-go' with a shitty phone. WELL COMPLICATED.
But right now it is sleepy time. Night night lovelies -x

Enchanted..

spotify:track:0W3pcx37uVDiaB4NH4G6yV - (Patrick Wolf)

Why do we always lose the things that mean the most to us? Last night I said goodbye to some guys from the speaking school- I've only known them for two/three months, but they were some of the funniest, most generous guys I have met out here. The course won't be the same without them.
Its an odd feeling, saying goodbye to people who you've only known for such a short about of time, and probably won't ever see again. Thankfully we didn't have a proper goodbye, as each of us had to run to catch our last tram home. Its like we flit in and out of other people's lives, taking a little piece of that person personality and journeying on, until we become our own individual human being, made up of little pieces from all the people we have previously met in our lives. I suppose we really only are what the people we know make us.

I also lost my favourite brown Topshop scarf last night. Very upset by that too! That's two scarves I've lost now- feel like I'm losing everything out here!! -x

Just know i'm just like you..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTPfJ3gISv4 - A cool find on Spotify today.

A little pick to show what my life currently consists of.. my guitar(Dylan), oranges, Weihnacht's Pflanzen, Herman Hesse and my beautiful, ratty old Converse.
Off into town now for some Xmas shopping- then we're all going out for dinner later(the course people) to celebrate them finishing their exams and it will probably be the last time I see them again, ever. So sad times ahead! But time to brave the storm outside now so, peace out -x

I do love ma ma 'nd pa..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjFaenf1T-Y - TEN DAYS.

Had a shopping chat with Mumma on skype tonight. Which basically entails, talking to one another, while doing a bit of the old internet shopping, and figuring out what to buy each other for Xmas. Such fun! Morgen habe ich frei- also kann ich endlich Weihnachts Einkaufen gehen!!(Bit of Germany for you there..)

My Topshop wish list.. I love you Mummy ;) <3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja5r_YjJ0vw&feature=related - Man, I would have loved to be there at that gig. Amazing!
Finally got one of my camera's developed the other day.. Here are a few of the snaps from the 'Weihnachtsfeier' with work.

Ahh such fun. Gotta dash off into this horrid weather now for work, need to stop off at some coffee place before though- so sleepy!! -x

Happy birthday Metallica..

Here I am, sat with a blanket, two jumpers, joggers and two pairs of high knee socks. Cold much!! I don't wanna ask downstairs to put my heating on either because they were super mardy earlier when I forgot my key and asked to be let in.. So gonna leave them alone for a bit, opps!
Anyway- its Metallica's 30th birthday today, wow! Been around for a while.. According to the sources of 'Rolling Stone' magazine, there was a massive six-hour celebration in San Francisco. With several tributes and special guests, including ex-bassist Jason Newsted. It all sounds pretty epic tbh- typical rock out festival in a self-made museum like building.. I think your gonna have to read the article to understand what I'm on about - http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metallica-reunite-with-bassist-jason-newsted-at-30th-anniversary-kickoff-20111205?utm_source=dailynewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter - But for those who don't really like Metallica.. The artist of the day today is Syd Barrett- a personal fav of my family. Singer/guitarist/founder of Pink Floyd. Lived a pretty interesting life. I have this philosophy that all musical(and otherwise) geniuses are all mental. Or just very odd people. Zum Beispiel:
1. Michael Jackson- did he not create Pop, was he not the King of dancing, did he not change the music industry and still influences millions today, was he not branded mentally ill?
2. Albert Einstein- I'll grant he is no musician but isn't he regarded as the father of modern physic's, but also regarded as a bit of a mad scientist?
3. Nick Drake- a one-of-a-kind guitarist, with a stunningly beautiful voice, yet a recluse and died young without barely ever being seen in public or recording his records.
4. Syd Barrett- a genius. Addicted to drugs, both influential on all, even those to whom he is unknown. Died a recluse and dealing with mental illness.
.. The list could go on,  but I'm tired and cold and need my bed. What's your view anyway, normally when I say my opinion I'm looked at really weirdly, as if I'm talking a load of bull.
Seeing as I'd loveloveLOVE to publish some of my work(my music and that..) I should become either a recluse or mad. Either or, they both seem to lie together after a while..
And on that bizarre note, bed time. Na'night Madhatters -x

King of carrot flowers..

Who'd like to guess where I am.. It's a rainy Tuesday afternoon, had "school" this morning, got course work to do, and I've got work later.. Still not got it- wow you don't really know me then do you.. (lol!) STARBUCKS of course! Where else do I spend a stupid amount of time and money..
I went to sleep stupidly late last night and for some reason woke up at half four(!!) and literally could not get back to sleep- so I spent a few hours curled up with three blankets, freezing cold, checking out Uni's in Germany and courses at different language schools. Quite interesting- I need to speak to someone really I think, as I can't work out what exactly I would need(qualification wise) if I did want to go to Uni here. Well complicated.
Anyway this is just a short post.. currently listening to a mixture, on Spotify radio, of jazz and indie. So good. This is popped up- so enjoy and hope its not so rainy and stormy wherever you are..

Monday blues..

Today wasn't actually a bad day! "School", home, work, fondue party, home. Good all round, plus I got another free Starbucks drink. Man- either I clearly do go there too often, so they just forgot to charge me!(?) oh well, I'm not complaining! I had to work until half eight, so I missed the actual main bit of the fondue party, but I got bread and wine when I arrived, so I can't really complain, first time in while I've drank wine, and man- I have missed it. As it was my Schweizer freunde (Swiss friends) organised the whole thing, they had proper good bread and white wine from Alsace. So good.
In class today we were being Christmas-y and I got given some reindeer ears. Obvs I am the coolest one in class as I was the only one who put them on.. Also our teacher told us that we need to really start thinking in German, which is good for me, as I'm already dreaming in German- but however this means that my English gets worse..(I already need to look up on Google translate what some words are in English! It gets worse everyday..!)
But now it is time for bed, I am so tired nowadays, its weird! Schalf gut und traum etwas schoenes

Bomb through the town..

Its getting super stormy out now- time for bath and bed soon me thinks. Watched 'One Day' earlier and I gotta admit, I really enjoyed it! I'd read the book a while ago and was a bit apprehensive, as I'd been told it didn't compare to the book at all. But it most definitely wasn't a massive let down, although Anne Hathaway's accent was a bit on and off.. But if you haven't seen it already, go for it! It makes you cry, it makes you laugh, but most importantly it makes you want to live in the moment, and say 'I love you' to the one person that matters most in your life.
I got my photo's developed yesterday but I'm being a cheap skate and not getting express delivery. Me being me, I didn't realise express was more expensive, so I've now gone for the cheaper option!
Just gotten myself a little private tutor person to help me along with my German(basically a mate who said he'd stop me from speaking dialect and help me with my grammar..) funfunfun! -x

Stormy morning..

spotify:track:4KNLFoFy1ebOz2YDnvdosj - I love waking up and listening to Bob Dylan, its a favourite routine of mine for a Sunday morning. Plus, this morning it is horrid weather outside, so I don't think I'm gonna venture out there- meaning, JOGGERS DAY!!
Yesterday before I went to work I managed to clean my flat a little bit, gotta say it was in desperate need for it! But now everything is sparkling clean(well as clean as I could be bothered to get it..) so I can have a super chilled out day today doing work.. Woo.
Feeling sentimental, I wanna go back to somewhere warm, with lots of music.. Here are a few photos from Leeds music fest a few years back- it was my first time there and it was a.m.a.z.i.n.g!

I miss these times- can't wait to see my friends and fam again. 14 DAYS!!!!! Hope y'all have a good Sunday. -x

Saturday, 3 December 2011

No surprises..

I got a little 'Nikolausgruss' through the post today from Mumma and Dad. Nikolaus Tag is a big thing in Germany, it falls on the 6th of December and basically its a pre-xmas session of opening presents.. they are laid out on the morning of the 6th, in front of the children's door. Normally its chocolate or something small, so its quite a sweet little occasion. And I thought I wouldn't get anything this year, being out here and all, but I got a few little bits and bobs all wrapped up this morning.. its taking all my will power not to open them!! But I am indeed looking forward to it.
Had an amazing sleep this morning, after the week I've had I've barely slept, so was perfect! Last night was fun too, we were supposed to go to this student party, but we(Elodie and I) and there was barely anyone there, so we came back into town and had just sat in Macdonald's, but it was the funniest thing! Then I went off to meet some work people, that was fun too and even managed to get the last tram home, which I was rather happy about, as I think I'm off out tonight too!
I also went shopping yesterday, (WITH MY 50% GUTSHEIN!!) but more on that tomorrow, when I have more time to write. Off to work in a bit and gotta do some cleaning and learning before. Everything is always so knapp(tight(time wise)) with me.. sucks. Have a good Saturday y'all -x

100 greatest guitarists..

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-guitarists-20111123
More on the link above in the next few days.. But not gonna lie, I wasn't shocked a number one. But quite happy about number two and five.. much love for both of them.
I forgot to mention earlier, at the main cinema in Freiburg there are more than two floors and the outside is main of glass and it's rather open plan. Anyway- there is a massive slide-y thing all the way from top to bottom!!! Like a big silver metal tube! So after a film, you obvs go to the toilet and right there in front of you, as a quick way to get down to the ground floor, there is a massive tube! What a perfect way to end a movie showing! Pure brilliance.
And on that note. Na'night -x

Winter winds..

I have missed Mumford & Sons so much. I didn't realise just how much until I listened to them today.. I just wish I was back at Leeds Fest 2K10, sun shining, Mumford on stage, cider in hand. SO GOOD!!
Anyway I have had the best day.. School this morning(managed to get there just in time(even though I woke up half an hour before lessons started..)) Then I met up with my aunty and we ate salad. How enthralling, right? Then had to dash off to work, but got to work in the men section again, seriously time goes so quickly there.. you can imagine why.. THEN- we dashed off to the cinema to experience the wonderfulness of Breaking Dawn. Now I'd read the books ages ago, don't think I've seen the third one either, so I wasn't all that excited(more excited to eat popcorn again tbh..) but, OMG. It is actually good(I had to get my dictionary out at one point, but apart from that I think I understood just about everything..) Can't wait till the next one though. Although that's in a years time- I'll probs be back to not being bothered about it then..
I realised earlier I hadn't opened my Advent's calender today.. I have one minute to open it- woo I made it! One English and one German, I feel so special! Aber ich habe heute eine schwierige Frage getroffen, what am I gonna do with my Advent calender's when I go back to England?!? I have just discussed this dilemma with Yasmin, and she has come up with the best solution. I shall leave them here when I fly back(then I get to eat them all before I go, or I have old chocolate for when I return) and then we shall go Advent's calender shopping together(as she didn't get one of her own.. sad face!!) Sound like the perfect plan or what?!
Shopping time tomorrow, wimming too, oh and also party with the "school" lot and going out with work lot. Man how am I gonna fit all that in.. Best get some sleep, love and peace dudes -x
